Day 2 – Kathmandu Durbar Square & Swoyambhunath (B)
This morning, visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, located in the heart of old Kathmandu city. Once the residence of Nepal’s Royal Family before the construction of Narayanhiti Palace, the complex is home to approximately 50 temples and shrines. The Durbar Square is divided into two courtyards: the outer courtyard featuring the residence of the Living Goddess Kumari, and the inner courtyard containing the main royal palace. Historically, important ceremonies including royal coronations were held here.
Continue to Swoyambhunath, one of Nepal’s most important UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Believed to have been established over 2,500 years ago, this sacred Buddhist site is renowned for its iconic stupa, panoramic valley views, and significance as a center of Buddhist learning.
Later, enjoy a traditional rickshaw ride from Durbar Square to Thamel, passing through the narrow streets of old Kathmandu and bustling local bazaars filled with vibrant daily life. Take time to experience the colorful atmosphere and interact with local residents.
Day 3 – Patan Durbar Square & Boudhanath Stupa (B)
Today, explore the ancient city of Patan, founded in 250 AD and celebrated for its remarkable arts and architecture. Walk through the lively bazaars and labyrinthine back streets while discovering the city’s renowned craftsmanship in bronze, silver, and copper works.
Visit Patan Durbar Square, including the Royal Baths, Mahaboudha Temple, Krishna Mandir, and Hiranya Verna Mahabihar, also known as the Golden Temple.
In the afternoon, visit a Buddhist monastery near Boudhanath Stupa, surrounded by stupas, gompa monasteries, curio shops, and local restaurants. Light a traditional butter lamp at the shrine and experience the spiritual atmosphere while observing monks during prayer rituals. If possible, enjoy an interactive session with a high monk for deeper insight into Buddhist philosophy and monastic life.
Day 4 – Kathmandu – Namo Buddha (B/D)
This morning, depart Kathmandu and drive to Namo Buddha, situated at an elevation of approximately 1,750 meters. Namo Buddha is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal and is closely associated with a legendary previous incarnation of Lord Buddha.
