Taipei Stopover – 5 Days

$ 495.00

Taipei is a dynamic city, a food lover’s dream and consistently ranked among the world’s friendliest and safest travel destinations. Enjoy this modern metropolis with Japanese colonial lanes, busy shopping streets and fantastic Palace Museum.

Description

Day 1 ARRIVAL TAIPEI
Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), you will be met and transferred to your hotel by private car (English-speaking driver).

The remainder of the day will be free until the evening where you will proceed for a Taipei Culinary Experience tour!

Taiwan is undisputedly a foodie’s paradise, and our Taipei Culinary Experience aims to bring you the full sights, sounds, fragrances and flavors of Taiwanese cuisine. We’ll start at a historical market where we’ll sample various traditional Chinese delicacies before heading over to Taipei’s undisputed gourmet ghetto, Yongkang street and the surrounding alleys. Explore the area for about an hour, stopping for several dishes in one or two of the neighborhood’s many famous restaurants (your guide will point out other spots for future meals).

We’ll be sure and save enough room for the movable feast’s ultimate destination, a guided tour of the world famous Ningxia night market, where we’ll sample a variety of dishes prepared by some of the city’s top street chefs. Please note: Our Taipei Culinary Experience is fairly omnivorous, but with advanced notice we can customize the tour to accommodate specific dietary needs.

Day 2 ULTIMATE TAIPEI CITY TOUR (B)
Ancient China, colonial Formosa and ultra-modern Taipei, all yours to experience on our Ultimate Taipei City Tour. You’ll uncover this dynamic capital’s must-see spots in style on a full day tour mixing tradition religious venues, historically important spots and places of scenic beauty.

Highlights of the tour include a brief visit to Taipei 101, a trip up volcanic Yaming Mountain, an hour at the National Palace Museum sampling ever-so-briefly 5000 years of Chinese art and culture, and a delicious tour of the bustling exotic Shilin night market. It’s a whirlwind tour, designed for visitors looking to experience as much of the capital as possible in the shortest time.

Day 3 TAIPEI / JIUFEN & PINGXI / TAIPEI (B)
Take a step back in time with a full day tour of Jinguashi, Jiufen, and Pingxi, three charming northern Taiwan towns renowned for their charm, history and culture. Jinguashi is famous for its gold mines, so naturally we’ll be bringing you inside one on the tour (the gold is long gone, alas, but you’re free to look). Jiufen is the inspiration for the Miyazaki classic Spirited Away, so expect to be similarly enchanted as we wander the narrow cobblestone streets.

And Pingxi is where Taiwanese people go to send their wishes into the heavens, literally, with the help of lanterns. (We’ll teach you how, so bring a few wishes along). Just a stone’s throw away from bustling Taipei, this tour will allow you to bask in the different old world atmospheres of three beautiful towns, take in astounding scenery and learn about Taiwan’s cultural heritage.

Day 4 TAIPEI / NORTH COAST / TAIPEI (B)
Sculpture is the theme of this tour; of man, of nature, and perhaps (for those inclined to believe) of the gods. Our first stop is Yehliu, a geological park known for its unusual rock formations created by surf, wind, erosion and (according to some) the artistic hand of various immortals. We’ll spend about 90 minutes on the cape enjoying ocean views, sea breezes and heavenly art before breaking for lunch.

After lunch, we’ll spend about two hours at the sprawling Ju Ming Museum, a multi-acre indoor and outdoor exhibition space where you’ll walk among hundreds of sculptures of stone, steel, and wood. Finally, we’ll take you on a lovely drive along the coast to the port city of Keelung, first to visit a secret spot for a panoramic view that will leave you breathless, then to the famous Keelung Night Market, where we’ll cap off the day in a whirlwind of sight and sound, fragrance and flavor.
