OVERVIEW

Set in the magnificent landscapes of the Southern Alps and nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown is breathtakingly beautiful and intensely exciting. Magnificent vistas and majestic mountains that plunge into crystal clear Lake Wakatipu dominate this compact and sophisticated resort town.

Once home to an immensely powerful glacier which carved the distinctive terrain, the Queenstown region has today earned a reputation as the southern hemisphere’s premier four season lake and alpine resort. The area has captured hearts and imaginations since the first Maori came in search of pounamu (greenstone) and the giant moa bird. More recently, gold miners, adventurers, filmmakers, wine enthusiasts and Hollywood stars have been drawn to this magical region and its intense alpine energy.

Often described as the adventure capital of the world, the expansive natural physical environment offers superb air, water and land based activities. An impressive range of activities includes: hiking, whitewater rafting, jet boating, bungy jumping, sky diving, cycling, paragliding, horse riding, flightseeing and hot air ballooning.

If you have time, take a trip across to the historic town of Arrowtown, a truly unique little town. Twenty kilometres from Queenstown, the seasonal changes in Arrowtown are visually striking.
