Valletta celebrated its 450th birthday in 2016 – according to local scholars, work on the city of Valletta start in March 1566, after Valletta’s important role in the Great Siege against the Ottoman empire in 1565. It was Europe’s first planned city and its strongest and finest fortified city.
Today, it has been architecturally revitalized, thanks to its remodelled City gate, Parliament building and Opera House. Stops include National Museum of Archaeology, St. John’s Co-Cathedral and Oratory to see its two Caravaggio masterpieces and the Casa Rocca Piccola.
End the day with a walk through the upper Bakkarra Gardens which borders Valletta’s bustling harbour.

After lunch, spend some time in adjacent Rabat where the Apostle Paul is said to have lived after he was shipwrecked here in AD 60.
We’ll begin with a 30-minute sightseeing train tour that goes through the heart of Rabat, then veers outside past Ghar Barka and Mtarfa – a route giving passengers magnificent views of Mdina and Malta – before looping back to end at the Domus Romana.
