Tour Itinerary to Northern Ethiopia (the Historic Route) – Addis Ababa, Axum, Lalibela, Gondar & Bahir Dar

Day 1 Arrive Addis Ababa (L/D)
Upon arrival this morning, you are met and welcomed at the airport.

Morning tour of Addis Ababa. Visit the National Museum & the Ethnographic Museum at the Addis Ababa University.

Visit the largest open-air market, Merkato and enjoy lunch.

Afterwards, check in to the hotel and have a little rest.

Later, drive to Yeka Terara for Addis Ababa City view and sunset.

Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in a hotel in Addis Ababa.

Day 2 Addis Ababa – Bahir Dar (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Bahar Dar.

On arrival, you are met by your guide and drive to Lake Tana, take a boat ride and visit to the medieval period island monasteries (beautiful mural paintings, religious books & sacred) on Lake Tana.

After lunch, you will drive to and visit to the Blue Nile Fall (some 30 Km).

Return to Bahir Dar and time at leisure.

Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight stay in hotel in Bahir Dar.

Day 3 Bahir Dar – Gondar (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.

Drive to Bahir Dar (185 Km). On arrival, check into a hotel (if rooms are ready).

Visit to the Royal Castles (built in the 17th Century A.D.), the Bath of Emperor Fasiledes, the Historic Debre Birhan Selassie Church, the Castle of Empress Mintewab, and Kuskwam Mariam Church (the bones of the Empress and princes rests in a glass coffin).

Dinner at a local restaurant & overnight stay in hotel in Gondar.

Goha hotel

Day 4 Gondar to Lalibela (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the airport for a short flight to Lalibela.

Upon arrival, welcome by our tour representative, where you will drive to the hotel (apx 25 Km from Lalibela airport).

On arrival, check into a hotel (if/when rooms are ready).

Visit will be to the eleven rock-hewn monolithic (carved from a single rock) Churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World heritage site, with magnificent architecture & paintings inside the churches).

Enjoy some free time at leisure.

Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight stay in hotel in Lalibela.

Mountain View hotel

Day 5 Lalibela – Axum (B/L/D)
Transfer to the airport for Flight to Axum.

Upon arrival, meet by our tour representative, transfer to a hotel for check in (if/when rooms are ready).

Visit to the Steale of Axum, the Inscription of Ezana, Queen Sheba’s Palace, the famous St. Mary of Zion Church, ruins of ancient palaces (built until 4th century A.D.).

Time at leisure.

Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Axum.

Day 6 Axum Flight to Addis – Cultural Dinner
Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the airport for a flight back to Addis. Arrival in Addis Ababa.

A cultural night and dinner for the authentic Ethiopian cultural food along with cultural drinks, live music and dances of the diverse nations and nationalities of Ethiopia.

Day 7: Addis Ababa – Entoto Mountain – Departure
Today, learn about humanity’s earliest origins at prehistoric Melka Kunture; tour the 12th-century rock-cut church of Adadi Mariam; and visit ancient Tiya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Afterwards, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
